Malinau Regency lies in the interior of North Kalimantan province, along the Malinau River. Its capital is Malinau city. The region neighbours Kayan Mentarang National Park (1.36 million hectares) – one of Borneo’s largest pristine rainforest areas.

Kayan Mentarang National Park is home to endemic species: Bornean clouded leopard, sun bear, rare bird species. Dayak Kenyah and Dayak Lundaye communities live in traditional longhouses: carved decorations, hudoq dances, authentic cultural experiences.
