Ciamis – Gateway to Pangandaran Beach and Sundanese Highlands
Ciamis se trouve dans the southeastern corner of West Java province, entre the Sundanese highlands and l'océan Indien. La capitale régionale est Ciamis town. The region is connu sous le nom de the gateway to the famous Pangandaran plage and the Green Canyon (Cukang Taneuh) gorge, while également offering rich Sundanese culture and highland scenery.

Green Canyon (Cukang Taneuh), on the Ciamis-Pangandaran border, is the gorge of the Cijulang River: a boat tour on emerald-green water takes you entre rock cliffs and tropical vegetation – one of West Java's most spectaculaire natural wonders. Situ Lengkong lake beside Panjalu village is a blend of ancien tradition and conservation: a small île on the lake is covered in sacred forest. Sundanese culture is the foundation of Ciamis's identity – jaipongan dance, kecapi suling music and wayang golek (wooden puppet theatre) are living traditions. The cuisine is characteristically Sundanese: nasi timbel (rice wrapped in banana leaf), lalapan (fresh vegetables with sambal), gurame bakar (grilled freshwater fish), and galendo (coconut oil molasses dessert) are local specialities.
