Madiun – Home of Pecel Madiun at the Foot of Mount Wilis
Madiun se trouve dans la partie ouest de East Java province, at the foot of Mount Wilis (2,563 m). Its capital is Mejayan (the independent Madiun city is surrounded by la régence’s territory). The region is an agricultural area with thék forests and Javanese rural life.
Attractions et activités
Teak plantations and green landscapes on Mount Wilis’s slopes are suitable for randonnée. Monumen Kresek is a historical memorial commemorating victims of the PKI uprising. Nglambangan sources chaudes are natural warm pools on Mount Wilis’s slopes. Nature walks are possible in the Perum Perhutani thék forest management area.
Culture et cuisine
Javanese culture is defining: wayang (puppet theatre), gamelan music. Pecel Madiun (rice with peanut sauce and vegetables) is Madiun’s most famous dish, known across Indonesia. Brem Madiun (fermented rice drink/cake) is a local speciality.
