    About Malang

    About Malang

Malang is one of East Java's most livable cities, with a cooler climate and significant university presence. Its economy is service and tourism-oriented, with strong domestic demand.

    Tourism & Attractions

Malang's tourism role is stronger than Semarang's.

    • Rainbow Village (Jodipan): visually striking creative neighborhood
    • Kajoetangan Heritage Village: historical district
    • Mount Bromo tours: Malang is a frequent starting point
    • Tumpak Sewu waterfall: a premier natural attraction

Additionally, the local café culture, urban parks, and surrounding highland landscapes complement the city's programs with pleasant climate and active tourism experiences. Malang's strength lies in the proximity of nature and city life.

The Rainbow Village (Jodipan) story is remarkable in itself: this formerly condemned slum neighborhood was painted in rainbow colors by local university students, transforming it into a tourist destination and creating a new source of income for local residents. The glass bridge spanning the river is one of the most spectacular photo spots. Directly adjacent is the lesser-known Blue Village (Kampung Biru), inspired by Morocco's Chefchaouen, famous for its rich street murals.

Kajoetangan Heritage Village is hidden behind modern streets, evoking the atmosphere of 19th-century Dutch-era Malang, with tiny alleys, antiquarian shops, and atmospheric cafés. The All About Koffie, operating since 1870, serves coffee from the Kawisari plantation in special variations, including wine and honey coffee. The city's cooler, more temperate climate – compared to the rest of Java – has attracted visitors since the Dutch colonial era, and this is what still makes Malang a pleasant base for discovering the area's natural wonders, including Mount Bromo and numerous waterfalls.

    Real Estate Outlook

    • Short-term rental apartments
    • Student housing with stable demand
    • Small tourism-oriented accommodations

Profile: higher growth potential, partially seasonal demand, requires active management.
