    About Tanjungmedar

Tanjungmedar – Upland kecamatan in Sumedang Regency, West Java

Tanjungmedar is a kecamatan in Kabupaten Sumedang in the province of West Java. According to the Indonesian Wikipedia article on the district, citing BPS Sumedang 2016 data, Tanjungmedar was formed in 2008 as a pemekaran from Kecamatan Tanjungkerta and now covers about 65.14 km² with a 2016 population of around 29,384 organised into nine desa: Cikaramas, Jingkang, Kamal, Kertamukti, Sukamukti, Sukatani, Tanjungmedar, Tanjungwangi and Wargaluyu, with its administrative centre in the desa Tanjungmedar. The kecamatan lies roughly 16 km from Kota Sumedang and is dominated by hills and small upland plains, with Gunung Geulis rising on the eastern side of the kecamatan.

    Tourism and attractions

Tanjungmedar's tourism character is tied to its upland landscape and to Gunung Geulis, a hill on the eastern side of the kecamatan whose Sundanese name means "beautiful mountain" and which serves as both a modest recreational viewpoint and a local pilgrimage site where some residents seek blessings related to marriage or career. The Wikipedia article also highlights an area known locally as Blok 4, where viewpoints across the upland landscape and the night-time lights of Kota Subang to the north-west are valued as a small-scale attraction. Sumedang Regency, of which Tanjungmedar is part, is better known for tahu Sumedang and Sumedang Larang royal heritage. The wider Priangan region around Bandung is associated with tea gardens and volcanic landscapes.

    Property market

Real estate in Tanjungmedar is primarily rural and upland. Typical holdings consist of single-family houses on family plots in the nine desa, interspersed with rice fields, mixed gardens, kencur ginger plots and small livestock operations. There are no large branded residential estates inside the kecamatan itself, but some edge-of-road commercial and residential clusters appear in desa Tanjungmedar and along the main road to Tanjungkerta. Most transactions are handled through customary or locally notarised arrangements, with formal land certification more common along the main roads and in the administrative centre. Land values sit at the lower-middle end of the Sumedang Regency spectrum, reflecting the distance from Sumedang town and from the Cisumdawu toll-road corridor, whose eastern end passes through the regency.

    Rental and investment outlook

Formal rental supply in Tanjungmedar is limited. Owner-occupied housing dominates, supplemented by a small number of kost rooms aimed at teachers, civil servants, health-clinic staff and pesantren students. There is no resort-driven or industrial rental market inside the kecamatan, and rental flows are closely tied to local government, education and small-scale agriculture. Investment interest in Tanjungmedar is best framed in terms of upland agricultural land, small guesthouse projects linked to Gunung Geulis tourism niches, and roadside commercial plots rather than residential yield. Within Sumedang Regency, stronger residential investment cases remain around Sumedang town and along the Cisumdawu and Bandung-commuter corridors in kecamatan such as Tanjungsari.

    Practical tips

Tanjungmedar is reached by road from Sumedang town, about 16 km away per Wikipedia, and from Subang to the north-west via regency routes that climb into the upland plateau. Inside the kecamatan movement relies on private motorbikes, cars and shared minibus services connecting the nine desa, with ojek important for steep side-roads. Indonesian regulations on land ownership, including the general prohibition on freehold title for foreign nationals, apply throughout the district.
