Poso – Lake Poso and Saluopa Waterfall
Poso Regency lies in the eastern part of Central Sulawesi province, between the Gulf of Tomini and Lake Poso. Its capital is Poso city. The region is known for the scenic Lake Poso, Saluopa waterfall and as the gateway to Lore Lindu National Park.
Attractions and Activities
Lake Poso (Danau Poso) is Sulawesi’s third largest lake, crystal-clear water, endemic fish species. Tentena mountain town on the lake shore, starting point for natural attractions. Saluopa waterfall is a 12-tiered waterfall. Lore Lindu National Park with megalithic stone statues and endemic species.
Culture and Cuisine
Pamona people’s culture is defining. Cuisine is Central Sulawesi: ikan sogili (eel from Lake Poso), ikan bakar, sago.

Poso is now a safe region. Medical care: hospital in Poso city; Palu (approx. 4 hours) has more advanced facilities.
Practical Information
From Palu, approximately 4 hours east by car (to Tentena approximately 5 hours). The best time to visit is April to October. Accommodation: guesthouses and simple hotels in Tentena and Poso.
