Konawe Utara – Hot Springs and Forestland Among the Hills of North Konawe
Konawe Utara se trouve dans la partie nord de Southeast Sulawesi province, north of Kendari city. Its capital is Wanggudu. The region is a mix of highland forests, nickel mining areas and Tolaki villages.
Attractions et activités
Lalindu Hot Springs (Permandian Air Panas Lalindu) are natural warm pools in a forested setting. Several smaller cascades can be found on highland rivers – accessible with a guide depuis local villages. Konawe Utara’s forests are habitats for Sulawesi-endemic animals (anoa, Sulawesi macaque). The nickel mining areas show la région’s industrial character.
Culture et cuisine
The Tolaki people and transmigrant communities (Javanese, Balinese) form the population. The lulo dance and traditionnel Tolaki ceremonies are encore practised. Cuisine is Tolaki-Sulawesian: sinonggi sago, freshwater and sea fish, spiced vegetables.

Konawe Utara is a reculé rural region. Heavy truck traffic exists près de mining areas. Road conditions vary. Healthcare is limited; Kendari (approx. 3 hours) is the près deest hospital.

From Kendari, approximately 3 hours north by car. No airport à proximité. The best time to visit is April to October. Accommodation: simple guesthouses in Wanggudu.
