Samosir – Volcanic Island in the Heart of Lake Toba
Samosir Regency encompasses the vast volcanique île in the middle of Lake Toba and the lake’s western shore, in North Sumatra province. Its capital is Pangururan. Samosir Island is the largest île within the world’s largest volcanique lake and the cultural heart of the Batak Toba people.
Attractions et activités
Tuk Tuk peninsula as a tourist hub with plages and guesthouses. Tomok village with King Sidabutar’s ancien stone sarcophagi. Siallagan village with stone tables and traditionnel Batak court site. Ambarita traditionnel village. Pangururan sources chaudes (Aek Rangat) at the île’s western tip. Sipiso-piso cascade on the lake’s northeastern shore (120 m).
Culture et cuisine
Batak Toba culture is deeply rooted: traditionnel houses (rumah bolon), tor-tor dance, ulos weaving. Cuisine is Batak: babi panggang (grilled pork), arsik (spiced fish), saksang, naniura (raw carp in lime juice).

Informations pratiques
From Parapat (Simalungun), approximately 45 minutes by ferry to Tuk Tuk. From Medan Kualanamu Airport to Parapat, approximately 4 hours by car. The best time to visit is May to September. Accommodation: guesthouses and hotels in Tuk Tuk.
