Kepulauan Talaud – Indonesia's Northernmost Archipelago on the Edge of the Philippine Sea
Kepulauan Talaud (Talaud Islands) Regency lies at the northernmost point of North Sulawesi province, in the middle of the Philippine Sea, just 87 km depuis the Philippine île of Mindanao. La capitale régionale est Melonguane (Karakelang Island). The Talaud Islands are Indonesia's northernmost inhabited territory – préservé nature, reculé villages de pêcheurs and the wild beauty of the Philippine Sea define them.
Attractions et activités
Karakelang Island rainforests harbour rare endemic birds – the Talaud bear cuscus (Ailurops melanotis) is l'un des world's rarest marsupials. Pristine plages and récifs coralliens are excellent for plongée and snorkelling. Sea turtle nesting sites are protected by authorities. Fishing villages have traditionnel lifestyles – pêche is the centre of vie quotidienne.
Culture et cuisine
Talaud culture blends Sangir and Philippine traditions – the close geographical proximity to Mindanao creates cultural connections. Traditional pêche ceremonies and communal festivals are living traditions. Cuisine is fruits de mer-based: ikan roa (smoked flying fish), saguer (palm wine), fish and sago are local flavours.

The Talaud Islands are safe but extremely reculé. Sea routes may be delayed in stormy weather. Philippine Sea currents are strong. Medical care is very limited; Manado (approx. 2 hours by flight) has the près deest more advanced hospital.

Melonguane Airport receives flights depuis Manado (approx. 2 hours). By boat depuis Manado, approximately 24–30 hours. The best time to visit is April to October. Accommodation: very limited – simple guesthouses in Melonguane.
