Kepulauan Aru – Birds of Paradise and Pearl Diving on the Edge of the Arafura Sea
Kepulauan Aru (Aru Islands) se trouve dans the easternmost part of Maluku province, on the Arafura Sea coast, près de Papua New Guinea and Australia. La capitale régionale est Dobo. Aru Islands rainforests are l'un des plus important habitats of birds of paradise – the greater bird of paradise (Paradisaea apoda) can be observed here in its natural environment. Pearl-plongée tradition is the Aru Islands' best-known patrimoine culturel – searching for pearl oysters in Arafura Sea waters is a siècles-old tradition. The Aru Islands are safe but extremely reculé. Use reliable local operators for sea tours. Arafura Sea currents are strong. Medical care is very limited; Ambon (approx. 2 hours by flight) has the près deest more advanced hospital.
