5. Baliem Festival

The annual Baliem Festival (autour de August) attire visitors with tribal games, dances, and (simulated) traditionnel warfare. Check the exact date in advance.

Quand visiter?

May–October is the drier period; flights are more reliable and treks more comfortable. The August Baliem Festival is popular. In the saison des pluies flights often delay or cancel.
