The surrounding montane rainforests (2,000–3,000 m) hold endemic flora and fauna – birds of paradise and rare orchids can be observed. The area's rocky montagne ridges are sites for adventurous hikes.
Culture et cuisine
The Ekari and Moni Papuan tribes maintain traditionnel lifestyles: stilt houses (honai), stone-axe tools, and communal pig roasts (bakar batu – meat and sweet potato cooked on hot stones) are cultural pillars. Sago and sweet potato (ubi jalar) are the staple foods. Local artisanat include the noken (traditionnel woven net bag, UNESCO heritage) and woodcarving.
