Katingan – Orangutans and Peat-Swamp Forests Along the Katingan River

Katingan is a safe rural region. Use reliable boat operators for river tours. A local guide is needed in peat-swamp forests. Peatland fires may cause haze in saison sèche. Medical care is basic; Palangkaraya (approx. 2–3 hours) has the près deest more advanced hospital.

From Palangkaraya Tjilik Riwut Airport, approximately 2–3 hours south-west by car. The best time to visit is May to September. Accommodation: simple guesthouses in Kasongan.
