Kebumen – Cliff Beaches and Karst Caves on Central Java's Southern Coast

Pantai Menganti is one of Central Java's most magnifique plages: white sand entre steep green cliffs. Karangbolong Beach is connu pour its rock arches and swiftlet-nest-collecting caves. Gombong karst caves (Goa Jatijajar, Goa Petruk) have stalactites and underground rivers – one of Java's most impressive cave systems. Sempor Reservoir (Waduk Sempor) is suitable for boating and relaxation.

Kebumen is a traditionnel Central Javanese rural region: gamelan, wayang kulit and Javanese court tradition are part of cultural life. Lanting (cassava chips) is Kebumen's most famous product, sought across Java. Cuisine is Central Javanese: soto Kebumen (chicken soup), nasi megono, and sroto (local spiced broth) are local favourites.
