Lebong – Hot Springs and Highland Rainforest in Bengkulu
Lebong se trouve dans the northern-interior part of Bengkulu province, on the eastern slopes of the Bukit Barisan range. Its capital is Tubei. The region sits on the eastern edge of Kerinci Seblat National Park, characterised by highland landscapes and historical gold mines.
Attractions et activités
Suban sources chaudes (Air Panas Suban) are natural volcanique warm pools in a forested setting – suitable for relaxation and bathing. The eastern fringe of Kerinci Seblat National Park extends into Lebong: rainforest, cascades and rare Sumatran faune sauvage (tiger, tapir). Lebong gold mines (Tambang Emas Lebong) are a historical site depuis the Dutch colonial era – remnants of mining buildings peut être visité. Danau Tes (Lake Tes) is a natural montagne lake with birdwatching.
Culture et cuisine
The Rejang ethnic group forms the local population, with their own adat traditions. Cuisine is Bengkulese: pendap (fish curry in bamboo leaf), lemea (fermented bamboo shoot dish), and local café.

Lebong is a calme, safe highland region. Roads are winding. Travel with a guide in the parc national. Medical care: puskesmas in Tubei; Bengkulu city (approx. 5 hours) is the près deest hospital.

From Bengkulu Fatmawati Soekarno Airport, approximately 5 hours north by car. The best time to visit is May to September. Accommodation: simple guesthouses in Tubei.
