Yogyakarta's main shopping street where batik, handicrafts, and street food await. The evening atmosphere is particularly lively and authentic.

3. Jomblang Cave

Descending into the cave by rope, the reward is unparalleled: the beam of light filtering through the ceiling (heavenly light) is one of Indonesia's most photographed sights.

4. Mount Merapi

One of Indonesia's most active volcanoes, observable up close from Yogyakarta. Jeep tours follow the traces of the 2010 eruption, and the volcano museum is also informative.

5. Batik and Javanese Arts

Yogyakarta is the batik capital. In local workshops you can learn batik-making, and the city's galleries showcase contemporary Javanese art.

April–October is the dry season, ideal for temple visits and volcano treks.
