Where is North Maluku?
The province is located on the northern Maluku Islands in eastern Indonesia. Ternate is accessible by air from Jakarta and other cities. Tidore and Halmahera are reached by ferry from Ternate. The region is off the main tourist routes.
What to See?
1. Ternate – Volcano and Sultanate
Ternate was the seat of the historic Ternate Sultanate. Gamalama volcano dominates the island. The Sultan's Palace (Kedaton), Dutch forts (Oranje, Tolukko), and clove plantations are living reminders of history.
2. Tidore – Sister Island
Tidore was Ternate's historic rival and partner. Kie Matubu volcano and local villages offer a calm atmosphere. The island is less developed for tourism – which gives an authentic experience.

Halmahera and surrounding waters are rich in macro life, wrecks, and coral reefs. The region is less crowded than southern Maluku – diving is calmer and more untouched.
When to Visit?
October–April is generally the drier period. Diving is best in October–November and March–May. In the rainy season (July–August) expect heavier rain.

- 2 days: Ternate, volcano, forts, Sultan's Palace
- 1 day: Tidore
- 2–3 days: Halmahera or diving
