    About Lampung Selatan Regency

Lampung Selatan – Gateway to Krakatau and Rajabasa Volcano

Lampung Selatan Regency lies at the southern tip of Lampung province, on the Sunda Strait coast. Its capital is Kalianda. The region is Sumatra’s southernmost mainland point and the nearest gateway to the Krakatau island group.

    Attractions and Activities

Krakatau (Anak Krakatau) volcanic island is reachable by boat from Canti or Sebesi ports – one of the world’s most famous volcanoes, which grew a new cone (Anak Krakatau) after its 1883 eruption. Rajabasa volcano (1,281 m) is suitable for hiking – from the summit, a panorama of the Sunda Strait is visible. Merak Belantung and Pasir Putih beaches are white-sand shores with snorkelling. Sebesi Island’s coral reefs are excellent for diving.

    Culture and Cuisine

The population is a mix of Lampung and Javanese transmigrants. Cuisine is Lampung-Sumatran: seruit (grilled fish), gulai ikan (fish curry), and fresh seafood from Sunda Strait fishing villages.

    Public Safety

Lampung Selatan is safe. Choose an experienced local boatman for visiting Krakatau – Anak Krakatau is an active volcano, respect the safety zone. Medical care: basic hospital in Kalianda; Bandar Lampung (approx. 1 hour) has more advanced facilities.

    Practical Information

From Bandar Lampung Radin Inten II Airport, approximately 1 hour south by car. The best time to visit is April to October. Accommodation: hotels and guesthouses in Kalianda and near the beaches.
