Nganjuk – Sedudo Waterfall and East Java’s Onion Capital
Nganjuk Regency lies in the western part of East Java province, on the northern slopes of Mount Wilis. Its capital is Nganjuk city. The region is one of Indonesia’s largest onion-growing areas – known as “the city of onions.”
Attractions and Activities
Sedudo Waterfall (105 m) on the slopes of Mount Wilis is a stunning natural beauty – site of the traditional “siraman” ceremony. Candi Lor and Candi Ngetos are Javanese Hindu-Buddhist temple ruins. Mount Wilis (2,563 m) is suitable for hiking. Local onion fields provide seasonally scenic views.
Culture and Cuisine
Javanese culture is defining: wayang and gamelan tradition. Cuisine is East Javanese: nasi pecel, sate ayam, rujak cingur.
