Kebumen Regency lies in the southern part of Central Java province, on the Indian Ocean coast. The regional capital is Kebumen town. Kebumen has become an emerging Javanese beach-culture destination in recent years: hidden coves on the rocky coastline and the karst area's caves make it attractive.

Attractions and Activities

Pantai Menganti is one of Central Java's most beautiful beaches: white sand between steep green cliffs. Karangbolong Beach is known for its rock arches and swiftlet-nest-collecting caves. Gombong karst caves (Goa Jatijajar, Goa Petruk) have stalactites and underground rivers – one of Java's most impressive cave systems. Sempor Reservoir (Waduk Sempor) is suitable for boating and relaxation.

Culture and Cuisine

Kebumen is a traditional Central Javanese rural region: gamelan, wayang kulit and Javanese court tradition are part of cultural life. Lanting (cassava chips) is Kebumen's most famous product, sought across Java. Cuisine is Central Javanese: soto Kebumen (chicken soup), nasi megono, and sroto (local spiced broth) are local favourites.

Kebumen is a safe region. Indian Ocean currents on southern beaches are extremely strong – do not swim deep. A local guide is recommended in caves. Medical care: basic hospital in Kebumen town; Purwokerto (approx. 1.5 hours) has the nearest more advanced hospital.

One of the centers of Javanese culture with two royal palaces (Kraton). Batik markets, traditional gamelan music, and local gastronomy provide an authentic Javanese experience.

5. Semarang – Colonial Heritage

Semarang's old town features Dutch colonial buildings, Chinese temples, and multicultural gastronomy. The Lawang Sewu building and Sam Poo Kong temple are the most famous.

April–October is the dry season, ideal for temple visits and the Dieng Plateau.
