Grobogan Regency lies in the north-central part of Central Java province, east of Semarang. The regional capital is Purwodadi. Kedung Ombo Reservoir (Waduk Kedung Ombo) is a vast artificial lake – boat tours, fishing and waterside scenery. Bledug Kuwu mud volcano produces natural mud bubbles and gas eruptions – a rare geological phenomenon. Grobogan teak forests (Hutan Jati) offer walking trails and birdwatching.
