Suka Ramai Atas – a settlement in Aceh, part of the Gayo region
Suka Ramai Atas is a settlement located in Wih Pesam district in Bener Meriah regency in Aceh province, Sumatra. The village is situated in the western part of the regency, within the traditional settlement area of the Gayo people. Bener Meriah regency was created from the separation of Aceh Tengah (Central Aceh) regency, and the regency seat is in Simpang Tiga Redelong. The regency's population of approximately 175,000 people places its individual villages among relatively sparsely populated settlements in Aceh.
General overview
Suka Ramai Atas is a rural settlement belonging to Wih Pesam district, considered a typical Acehnese settlement. The village is part of the Gayo region, where the Gayo ethnic group is the dominant population. Among the ten districts of the regency, Wih Pesam district is one that is home to more than two hundred villages across all of Bener Meriah regency. Acehnese villages are characterised by the widespread use of the Gayo language alongside Indonesian, which is also widely used. Suka Ramai Atas does not have publicly available settlement-level data; however, due to its distance from the regency seat in Simpang Tiga Redelong, the village is reached by the regency's institutional service network. The regency's area of 1,454 square kilometres and its district network determine the settlement's role within the broader regional context.
Real estate and investment
Suka Ramai Atas, as a smaller Acehnese rural village, does not actively participate in the real estate market; however, Bener Meriah regency's real estate market is integrated into the broader Sumatran development. In Aceh province, real estate transactions generally occur in lower volumes compared to Java, but at the regency level, local demand can be observed for basic residential property and agricultural land. For foreign investors, Indonesian law has imposed strict restrictions on land acquisition: foreign individuals cannot own land in Indonesia in their own name, and can only have usufruct rights (hak pakai) for a maximum of 25 years, or hold ownership through an Indonesian company. Such investments in Bener Meriah regency are quite limited, as the region's economic focus is primarily directed towards local agriculture, coffee cultivation, and other traditional activities. Suka Ramai Atas is likely under agricultural or mixed use, where local communities and family farms dominate.
Safety and security
Specific data on public safety for Suka Ramai Atas at the village level are not available; however, regarding Aceh province as a whole, the public safety situation has improved significantly over the past two decades. Following the 2004 tsunami and the armed conflict that preceded it, Aceh experienced intensive pacification and community-building processes with support from government and international organisations. With the passage of a generation, Aceh has transformed into a relatively stable and secure region. In Bener Meriah regency, as a rural area previously inhabited primarily by the Gayo ethnic community, the occurrence of violent crime remains low. Known security risks are primarily traffic-related, as Acehnese rural roads are characterised by severe weather conditions and infrastructure deficiencies. Local traditional conflict resolution mechanisms and community control remain strong in rural areas, contributing to the informal maintenance of security.
Tourist attractions
Suka Ramai Atas settlement does not have identified tourist attractions of its own. The village is a small rural settlement that is not among Aceh's tourism-exposed destinations. However, at the Bener Meriah regency level, several historical and cultural features can be found. The regency is served by Rembele Airport, which serves Bener Meriah and the neighbouring Aceh Tengah regency. The region's cultural heritage is primarily manifested in the traditional lifestyle, architecture, and customs of the Gayo people. Bener Meriah regency was also historically significant in the history of independent Indonesian radio broadcasting: Radio Rimba Raya during the 1940s and 1950s was a symbol of Indonesian sovereignty against Dutch military aggression, and is today preserved as a monument in Pintu Rime Gayo district. In the immediate vicinity of Suka Ramai Atas, the mountainous landscapes form part of the Sumatran volcanic and rainforest ecosystem, which contribute to the region's ecological value; however, due to the lack of tourism infrastructure, they are accessible in a limited manner.
Summary
Suka Ramai Atas is a small rural settlement in Wih Pesam district, Bener Meriah regency, Aceh province. The village can be considered a typical Sumatran rural settlement, where the Gayo ethnic group and culture are dominant. In terms of the real estate market, the village has underdeveloped characteristics consistent with its agricultural and rural character, while public safety is relatively stable as a result of the development characteristic of the Aceh region in general. From a tourism perspective, the village itself does not attract visitors; however, the cultural and historical values of the Bener Meriah region may be of interest to the surrounding area.
