    About Bali

    About Bali

Bali is Indonesia's most popular tourist destination and one of the country's 33 provinces. Located in the Lesser Sunda Islands, just east of Java, Bali offers a unique blend of stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and modern amenities.

    Geography & Climate

The island spans approximately 153 km east-west and 112 km north-south, covering 5,633 km². Bali's landscape is dominated by volcanic mountains, with Mount Agung (3,142 m) as its highest peak. The southern region features alluvial plains with fertile rice terraces, while the northern coast is home to the island's main port, Singaraja.

Bali enjoys a tropical monsoon climate with two distinct seasons: dry (June-October) and wet (November-March). Coastal areas maintain warm temperatures year-round, while the mountainous interior offers cooler nights.

    Culture & Demographics

Bali is unique in Indonesia as the only province with a Hindu majority (93% of the population). The island's culture is deeply rooted in Balinese Hinduism, a blend of Hindu beliefs and local traditions. This is reflected in daily life through numerous temples, traditional dances, music, and elaborate ceremonies.

The island's population of over 4.4 million is primarily Balinese, with significant expat communities in areas like Canggu, Seminyak, and Ubud. Denpasar serves as the provincial capital and largest city.

    Economy & Tourism

While agriculture, particularly rice cultivation, remains important, tourism has become Bali's primary economic driver. The island attracts millions of visitors annually, drawn by its beautiful beaches, cultural sites, and vibrant lifestyle.

Popular tourist areas include Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur, Jimbaran, and Ubud. The Ngurah Rai International Airport connects Bali to major cities worldwide.
